Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
This page explains what windhelm.dev (the site for the game Windhelm, published by NorwinLabs LLC) collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: the site has no accounts and no ads, analytics only run if you accept them, and we collect your email only if you sign up for the newsletter.
Analytics (only with your consent)
If you click Accept analytics, the site loads Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors use pages (clicks, scrolling, anonymized session recordings and heatmaps) so we can find and fix problems. Clarity sets cookies and processes data such as your IP-derived location, device, browser and the pages you view, under Microsoft's privacy statement. If you decline, Clarity is never loaded. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat it as declining. You can change your choice at any time: .
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address is sent to Buttondown, our newsletter provider, which sends a confirmation email and the updates you signed up for. Every email contains an unsubscribe link. We use the address only to send Windhelm news.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and delivered through Cloudflare. Like any web host, these providers process technical data such as IP address and request details to serve the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare may also collect aggregate, privacy-friendly traffic statistics.
Third-party content and links
- Discord: your browser contacts Discord to display the community member and online counts, which shares your IP address with Discord.
- Steam, YouTube, GitHub and Discord links take you to services with their own privacy practices.
- Steam news shown on the site is fetched by us ahead of time; it does not involve any data about you.
-
Links to the Steam store may include campaign tags (such as
utm_source=windhelm.dev) so Steam can tell us, in aggregate, how many visits came from this site. They contain nothing about you.
Data stored in your browser
The site stores one small value in your browser's local storage: your cookie choice. It also uses a service worker to cache site files for faster loading. Neither is used to identify you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold, and to object to or withdraw consent for processing. The only personal data we control is your newsletter email address, which you can remove yourself with the unsubscribe link in any email. For anything else, contact us using the details below.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the site or the law changes; the date above shows the latest revision. Questions or requests? Reach us on our Discord server.
